Nazdar 2800 Series UV-LED Durable Screen Ink

Nazdar 2800 Series UV-LED durable screen ink provides excellent adhesion on vinyls and print treated polyesters, making it ideal for vehicle decals. It cures with UV-LED or traditional mercury vapor UV lamps to provide up to four years' outdoor durability without an overprint, or five years with the addition of Nazdar 2829 Durable Overprint Clear, for long term graphics on motorcycles, cars and more. Nazdar 2800 is inter-printable with Nazdar's industry standard 3600 UV Series decal inks and the 2800 toner color system can expand the 3600 color gamut.

    UKHO HP PageWide printer LFR

Stanford Marsh, a leading independent solutions provider for the wide-format and 3D print sectors – and one of only three UK vendors permitted to supply and service HP’s new PageWide XL Series of products – has installed five new HP PageWide XL 8000 printers at the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office’s (UKHO) headquarters in Taunton, Somerset.

In Europe’s largest HP PageWide installation to date, the UKHO’s five HP PageWide XL 8000 printers form an integral part of an end-to-end solution developed by UKHO in partnership with HP and folding system manufacturer MBO. The new solution is being used to transform UKHO’s chart printing operations.

    UKHO MBO folding system LFR

The UKHO produces nautical charts, publications and services for the Royal Navy and merchant shipping to protect lives at sea. In August 2014, the UKHO started its transformation project to move the lithographic printing of its charts across to digital print. The estimated output volume of the new digital printing system is circa 4 million square metres per annum.

The supply of the HP PageWide XL printers used within the project went out for tender to HP’s UK resellers and was won by Stanford Marsh. Paul Kelly, Production Manager at UKHO*, explains: “We made the decision to go with Stanford Marsh as they could supply the printers at a cost-effective price, and – crucially – they were able to meet the Service Level Agreement (SLA) criteria that we outlined.

“The SLAs we put in place are robust and equate to 92% productivity between 6am and 9pm, five days a week. We require on-site support within four hours of an incident being logged, the problem has to be resolved within six hours, and if it isn’t, a new HP PageWide printer needs to be installed into the workflow and operating successfully within twelve hours. Stanford Marsh was able to offer all of this at a competitive price.”

The end-to-end solution went live in August 2015. Since that time, UKHO has transformed the printing of its 3500 unique charts to a fully digital process and is reaping the benefits of faster production speeds, improved efficiency, reduced wastage, lower stockholding requirements, better environmental credentials, and much more.

Additionally, moving to an inline solution – rather than a stock-based printing model – has enabled UKHO to make production time savings.

  • Independent printers lead the HP PageWide XL way with Stanford Marsh

    hp pagewide

Stanford Marsh, a leading independent solutions provider for the wide-format and 3D print sectors – and one of only three UK vendors permitted to supply and service HP’s new PageWide XL Series of products – has announced two new customers for HP’s PageWide XL printing technology.

Both companies - Quickprint Exeter and International Copy Shop - are independent printers and have been able to quickly invest in – and take advantage of – the PageWide XL technology thanks to their forward-thinking outlook and autonomy in making decisions.

    Quickprint Exeter

Already utilising an eco-solvent wide format printer and an HP Z6800 printer for outdoor, signage and photo work, Quickprint Exeter was looking to replace its Xerox monochrome LED plan printer with a solution that could deliver cost effective and high quality colour and black and white printing output from a single device.

Stanford Marsh arranged a demonstration to show Quickprint Exeter the capabilities of the HP PageWide product range and the company subsequently became one of the first printers in the UK to implement the HP PageWide XL5000 MFP Copy, Print and Scan solution.

Quickprint Exeter’s managing director Danny Frayne explains: “Printing is a very competitive industry. Our business is constantly evolving to keep up with the latest trends, so adopting new technologies that can add or enhance the services we provide is important to our ongoing success.”

On opting for PageWide technology, he adds: “The speed and quality required for the quick turnaround of CAD line drawings for the construction industry, rendered images, GIS maps and high-resolution scanning and copying for our customers was a key factor when selecting our upgrade, as these are often time-critical. However, the HP PageWide XL printer – which runs at five times lower energy consumption than LED models – has the added advantage of being able to provide the fast production of posters on a range of media from the same machine. This has opened open other markets to us – in fact, one of the first jobs completed on the PageWide was for a large number of A1 colour posters.”

    International Copy Shop

International Copy Shop (ICS), located at NEC Birmingham, invested in a new HP PageWide XL 5000 multifunctional printer in a deal signed at Sign & Digital UK 2016. The printer was installed in May 2016 and has been a great success.

Stanford Marsh’s Julian Mennell explains: “The HP PageWide project with International Copy Shop evolved over a period of time. Their requirements started off with looking at adding colour scanning capabilities to the bureau. However – after reviewing the ageing kit within the business – I suggested that they should look at PageWide technology.

“During a demonstration, we were able to show the benefits of HP PageWide XL in replacing multiple machines and offering a cheaper and faster turnaround for ICS customers. This fast turnaround is critical for ICS due to its location and the demands of the companies exhibiting at the NEC. ICS’s workload is varied and includes plan drawings right through to point of sale, outdoor banners and more.”

    SmartStream Workflow software

Both Quickprint Exeter and International Copy Shop have opted for the SmartStream workflow software which enables quick and easy submission of multiple print files. An image of each file can be viewed prior to printing which highlights any errors within the file for correction. By eliminating errors within files, print jobs are produced perfectly, and waste or misprints are eliminated.

Inclusive service contract from Stanford Marsh

Both companies have opted for an inclusive service contract from Stanford Marsh. For ICS and Quickprint Exeter, these contracts – which can be tailored to meet any individual customer’s needs – cover all service click throughput charges for inclusive part replacement and labour, inks, heads and associated consumables, meaning that customers’ funds do not need to be tied into stock as billing is paid quarterly in arrears.

Quickprint’s Danny Frayne adds: “We also chose the inclusive service contract from Stanford Marsh which meant that consumable items, parts and labour were covered along with planned maintenance visits. This – combined with information we get from the embedded web server – means we know exactly how much each print is costing us to produce.”

    Independent printers leading the way

Due to their ability to make decisions quickly, independent printers are leading the way in the PageWide market.

Matthew Perkins, Director at Stanford Marsh, concludes: “Independent printers are more flexible and able to make a quicker decision with their technology upgrades than larger copy shop chains. With the demands of the construction industry particularly requiring quick turnaround of construction drawings, the HP PageWide XL Series allows independent printers to compete with faster lead times and – most importantly – competitive yet profitable pricing.

“The added advantage of additional applications offers incremental business opportunities without tying up valuable costly floor space with additional hardware.”

  • Stratasys J750: Turning workflow into child's play

    stratasys j750 lfr

Stratasys Gold Reseller SMG3D - www.smg3d.co.uk – discusses why the Stratasys J750 is your perfect companion throughout the design, development and production process, and how it turns workflow into child's play.

    Master of all Trades

As any product developer knows, the entire process from idea to packaged product is a long and complex one. The job of a 3D printer supplier is to help at every stage, but at every stage there are different requirements. At last, there is one 3D printer that covers the whole process: the Stratasys J750, with its 6-material capacity.

Let us pretend that we are designing and manufacturing a range of computer mice for children.

    Stage 1: Early Research

Full-size mice are too big and cumbersome for kids. Therefore, we need to design the product to fit in smaller hands – but what is the right size and shape? The best way to find out is to 3D print a whole range of different sizes and shapes and then get some feedback. At this stage, we don’t need colour, we don’t need functionality, just precise, accurate models.

Load up the lowest-priced material, place a range of designs on the bed and hit print. In next to no time, we are getting early feedback.

    Stage 2: Concept Models

Once we have a good idea of size and shape, we need to get right into the concepts. Kids aren’t going to be inspired by a solid white mouse. They want fun – so let’s get creative. Now that we have the form, designers can mock up some cartoon, full-colour designs to get some more feedback – both from kids and from those all-important marketing folks.

Load up the CMYK + White & Transparent materials into the J750 and print out those concepts in over 360,000 colours. What is on-screen will be printed. Perfect for people to get a real-life visual sample of the end product.

    Stage 3: Functional Testing

Now that we have a funky-looking, ergonomically designed model, it is time to get functional. Let’s see how hard the button presses should be. Let’s fit on some some-touch sections in the correct Shore A value and a rolling soft-touch scroll wheel. Let’s make sure we design a secure battery compartment that inquisitive fingers can not access, but that adult fingers can. Let’s fill the whole thing with the actual electronics and test, test, test.

Load up some functional plastics and rubbers into the J750 and make sure that this great looking and feeling product actually works in a real world environment.

    Stage 4: Moulding

Naturally, the end product will not be 3D printed – the market is not there yet. It will instead be injection moulded. However, before we go to the expense of setting up the mould tools, let’s just check that the tools are designed correctly. So we need to 3D print the mould tools and use these to validate our designs. They will be good for dozens of shots, so we can make sure the mould tools are correct and get a very final test of the mouse in its final production plastics.

Load up Stratasys’ Digital ABS into the J750, switch it into high speed mode and print out those mould tools.

    Stage 5: Production

The J750’s contribution to time and cost savings are not over yet. There is a need for jigs and fixtures during the production process – during painting and finishing. There is also a need for robotic end-of-arm tools to assemble the mouse. All of these are cheaper and faster to produce, as well as lighter and better-designed, using 3D printing.

Load up some rubber-like material with the Digital ABS and print out the exact jigs, fixtures and tools that you need. These can incorporate soft-touch grippers and have integrated air channels.

    Conclusion

The Stratasys J750 is your companion right the way through the design, development and production process. This mouse was just one example of what could be done – but in any industry the steps are similar.

In this video below, lead times at Synergy were cut by 90% and costs by 70%. Post processing of CNC machining and water printing, casting, sanding and silicone engraving as well as printing of additional parts were all eliminated by the use of one machine – the Stratasys J750.

SMG HP DesignJet EMEA Champions 2015 trophy LFR

Stanford Marsh has announced that – once again – it has been presented by HP with an award for being the most successful UK reseller for the HP DesignJet wide-format series. In simple terms, this means that the company completed 2015 with more HP DesignJet product placements in the UK and Ireland than any other vendor.

The HP DesignJet EMEA Champions 2015 award was presented to Stanford Marsh Sales Director Danny Davies at the HP EMEA Conference held in Singapore at the back end of 2015.

On receipt of the award, Danny Davies states: “We are very excited to enter 2016 with this much-prized award. With more than 2000 HP resellers having access to the DesignJet series, it was no mean feat to win this coveted trophy.”

Alongside the HP Designjet Series, Stanford Marsh’s HP portfolio also includes the very latest Latex series of printers, as well as HP’s new PageWide XL series.

“This is the 11th time that Stanford Marsh has won a channel award since 2010 and we believe this highlights why we were chosen by HP as one of only three UK vendors able to supply and service the new PageWide XL series of products,” continues Danny Davies.

He concludes: “Finishing 2015 as HP's UK market leader is extra special as we celebrated our 50th successful year in business; it’s also a year in which we have invested heavily in service training and infrastructure allowing us to achieve ISO 9001 service accreditation.”

  • Thermadent reaps benefits of digitised workflow thanks to Objet30 OrthoDesk 3D printer from SMG3D

    SMG Thermadent technician LFR

“Going digital is surely the only route for affordable dental technology, and I would say it’s a must for all forward-thinking dental practitioners.”

Merseyside-based Thermadent Ltd., an orthodontic dental laboratory company, recently purchased an Objet30 OrthoDesk 3D printer to help digitise its workflow. The printer was installed by SMG3D – the 3D print division of the Stanford Marsh Group – and Thermadent has reaped the numerous benefits of its newly-digitised work flow.

Since February 2014, NHS Dental Services has been requesting that pre-treatment and post-treatment study models are submitted digitally. This led Thermadent to look at investing in a digital scanner to convert bulky and difficult-to-store plaster study models to 3D digital models.

Matthew Garnett, owner and Managing Director of Thermadent, explains: “I studied the 3D print market and plumped for an Objet30 OrthoDesk 3D printer, which we sourced from SMG3D. Since installation, the printer has transformed our production processes.”

“Using 3D digital study models means there’s no longer any need to store the physical study models − and we no longer need to worry about plaster model disposal. What’s more, thanks to new GDC regulations, every orthodontic practice now has to keep a record of each patient’s tooth movement indefinitely. To store each patient’s plaster study models would quickly become impossible. With digital study models all you need is a safe, secure place to store the CDs that contain the files.”

Matthew also explains that using the printer in-house has reduced lead times significantly: “The Objet30 has been specifically designed for small to medium-sized orthodontic dental labs like Thermadent. It helps us digitise our workflow from digital file to model, accelerate our production times and increase production capacity cleanly and efficiently.”

He continues: “With our digital workflow, we are able to convert chairside oral scans into precisely accurate 3D printed models, quickly. Additionally – thanks to the precise tolerances and extreme accuracy provided by the printer – our aligners are more accurate and provide a much better fit.

“Going digital is surely the only route for affordable dental technology, and I would say it’s a must for all forward-thinking dental practitioners.

“The team at SMG3D helped me decide which 3D printer was best for my needs thanks to their informed and impartial advice. Their help with installation and integration of the new machine with my existing equipment meant I could get on with the training they provided straight away, which reduced set-up time for the new Objet30 to an absolute minimum. They provided a first-class service all round.”

Adrian Painter, director of Stanford Marsh Group, comments: “Dental professionals such as Thermadent are already reaping the considerable benefits of 3D Print in terms of increased productivity, reduced costs and improved patient experience. We’re delighted to be able to supply the relevant 3D print solutions and offer the support to enable them to seamlessly transition to a digitised workflow.”

    SMG Thermadent Objet30DP LFR

SMG3D’s knowledge and experience of 3D Print is extensive as it has supplied 3D print technology into engineering environments for rapid prototyping and digital manufacturing applications for several years; Representatives from the company look forward to discussing the potential of introducing 3D Print into their workflow process with visitors at the upcoming Dental Technology Show (Birmingham NEC, 22nd- 23rd April 2016).
