Training Academy expansion at William Smith

Demand for a higher level of vehicle wrap training to complement the longstanding Basic Course has grown over the last few years.

William Smith’s Training Academy is going from strength to strength with the appointment of two additional Trainers this month. Joining the legendary Training & Applications Manager Gill Harrison, we are pleased to announce John Raine and Mike Szwacki will join the team as Training Managers.

John joins the team with 8 years experience within the business and a wealth of product knowledge and practical skills. John will initially look after the majority of the Architextural training portfolio, which covers both 3M DI-NOC and Cover Styl’ architectural finishes application techniques.

Mike Szwacki, who has been working with William Smith for a number of years, cements his commitment to growing the success of the Academy. His appointment signifies a new chapter in the successful relationship, as a leading expert within the vehicle wrapping industry. Mike has a glowing reputation with the vehicle wrap world, as a finalist in the prestigious World Wrap Masters after winning the European Wrap Master 2022 at this year’s FESPA.

The development and growth of the Academy is also underpinned by the launch of two new courses for 2022, an Advanced Vehicle Wrap Course and an Architextural Kitchen Wrap Training Course.

Demand for a higher level of vehicle wrap training to complement the longstanding Basic Course has grown over the last few years, bringing about the development of the new Advanced Vehicle Wrap Course and a Wrap Room upgrade. This 2-day training option will offer experienced vehicle wrappers a course designed specifically to take their wrapping skills to the next level.

The course jumps straight into advanced vehicle wrap techniques, focusing on door shuts, wing mirrors, door handles and the most difficult wheel arches on the roads right now. Courses are limited to four attendees to ensure each delegate has the time and one-to-one tuition needed to not only learn, but perfect applications. Additional content includes tight corners, trimming techniques, avoiding stretch discolouration and inlays, using a range of branded digital, reflective, coloured and chrome wrap films, from 3M, Avery Dennison and Arlon.

The new Architextural Kitchen Training Course has been added to the 2022 training calendar in response to the kitchen refurbishment market that flourished over the last two years, especially during lockdown. With a large proportion of the Architextural Installation Network specialising in kitchen wraps, a course dedicated to the intricacies of these specific applications will be beneficial to both new businesses looking to diversify into this market and those wanting to refresh their skills.

The course begins with a morning theory session before moving to the Wrap Room for hands-on practical training using 3M DI-NOC and Cover Styl’ kitchen wrap films. Topic areas include preparation, cut and fold / warm and form techniques, worktop joins, a variety of door styles, worktop appliances, repairs and splice joins.
