Pennine Signs has taken delivery of a new HP Latex 365 wide format printer, eleven years after investing in the very first generation of HP Latex in 2008 and staying true to the brand ever since.
Colin Clewes bought out Pennine Signs in 2007, with the company initially specialising in cut-vinyl vehicle livery for car dealerships. It added vehicle wrapping, banners and signage to its service offering, outsourcing all printing work to another business - which involved an hour of driving each day. As demand grew, Pennine Signs opted to bring graphics printing in-house with the groundbreaking HP Latex L25500, which made its debut at drupa in 2008 and was officially launched at Viscom Dusseldorf in 2009.
"I was first attracted to HP Latex for its instant curing," explains Colin Clewes, Managing Director of Pennine Signs. "Just a few minutes out of the machine and output is ready to laminate.
"I also like the non-toxic water-based inks used on HP Latex printers, in comparison to eco-solvent."
In the last decade Pennine Signs has kept up to date with the latest HP Latex printer releases, which Colin says has helped the business grow and move into new markets and products. He says he has stayed loyal to the brand for two main reasons: versatility and reliability.
"HP Latex is compatible with so many different media - it prints almost whatever you can throw at it," he says. "And we can rely on it to print all day from 8.45am to 5pm - and sometimes overnight - with no problems and very little downtime. We're even able to power it off and leave it for a week or two over holiday periods, as the ink won't dry up like some eco-solvent inks. That gives me peace of mind as a business owner."
The latest printer to be installed at the Pennine Signs manufacturing premises in Halifax was delivered in September by PSW. This authorised HP supplier has supplied every one of Pennine Signs's Latex systems since the second-generation release because, according to Colin Clewes, PSW provides 'honest customer service and a realistic breakdown of costs'.
Along with the HP Latex 365 printer, this year Pennine Signs has invested in a CNC router and wide format heat press, allowing it to expand further throughout 2020.
