Packaging Innovations and Empack unveils its show highlights

Headlining the seminar programme is the Big Debate where experts from OPRL, UKRI, and Clarity Environmental will dissect and assess the Government’s latest packaging regulations.

Ahead of Packaging Innovations and Empack 2022 making its long-anticipated return to Birmingham’s NEC next week (25 & 26 May), the industry’s flagship event has released its unmissable show highlights.

Renan Joel, Easyfairs’ Divisional Director, says: “We are delighted to welcome everyone back to the show after such a long time away. From next week, visitors can enjoy the most varied and in-depth packaging event ever, with a fantastic range of exhibitors and new interactive features to look forward to. Ahead of the event, we wanted to share the ‘must-see’ elements that visitors will not want to miss.”

Sustainability Trail
New for 2022, the Sustainability Trail is a visitor’s guide to discovering the products showcasing new developments in sustainability solutions. The eco-roadmap highlights exhibitors that are presenting the sustainable technologies, products, and services, all qualified by a panel of packaging experts: Martin Kersh, Director, FPA; Simon Oxley, Pret a Manger; Laura Fernandez, Ocado.

The £10 Billion Debate
Headlining the seminar programme is the Big Debate where experts from OPRL, UKRI, and Clarity Environmental will dissect and assess the Government’s latest packaging regulations.

The Ecopack Challenge
The Ecopack Challenge will pit a series of innovative packaging concepts against each other in a Dragon’s Den style competition. The winner will demonstrate a holistic approach to sustainability, and a clear understanding of the multiple issues consumers and companies face daily to improve the future of the planet.

Product Launches
Harkwell will showcase pure innovation as it launches its Electroink invisible ink solution live on the show floor. Designed for security purposes to guard against forgery and counterfeiting, the release will revolutionise safety packaging.
Lactips will launch its plastic-free paper, designed to provide a barrier against oxygen, fats, and minerals. The coating is set to replace plastics and chemical treatments for sealable packaging papers, to reform food and non-food applications.

Big Name Speakers
The event’s curated seminar programme will gather some of the biggest names from the likes of Pret, Ocado, Nestlé, OPRL, Co-op, Mondalez, and Muller Dairies, to take on the industry’s most pressing issues from the future of packaging materials and developments in sustainability and material innovations, to the ‘heroic’ status of paper in packaging.

Renan Joel, Easyfairs’ Divisional Director, concludes: “After a two-year hiatus we can’t wait to finally open our doors. With the breadth of innovation and insights on offer, we know that everyone will leave the show armed with the concepts and ideas they need to power their packaging journey.”
