Mimaki is seemingly aiming to extend and enhance its presence in the high-growth digital textile print sector, having announced to the Japanese stock market that it has reached agreement to acquire 100% of Italian textile specialist La Meccanica.

With Mimaki printers already well established in affordable roll-to-roll textile printing, this strategic acquisition will see Mimaki adding further expertise, production capacity and capabilities at the higher end of the digital textile print sector.

Headquartered in Urgnano - in Bergamo, the very epicenter of the European fashion apparel market - La Meccanica has been established for over 40 years, and is currently a well-respected specialist manufacturer in the textile market. With in-house production in a modern 5000 sq.m facility that features efficient production using advanced automation and robotics, La Meccanica develop and produce a broad range of bespoke and custom solutions covering textile printing, textile inspection, and specialist packing.

What does this mean for Mimaki? The natural assumption is that Mimaki are looking to add to their production portfolio at the higher-volume end of the digital textile print sector, but as of yet no official announcement has been made beyond the notification to the Japanese stock market.
