Epson UK is proud to announce that Birmingham City University (BCU)’s Facility of Arts, Design and Media student, Priti Patel, is this year’s recipient of its ‘Outstanding Use of Print’ Award.
Miss Patel received the Award at the University’s annual Final Year Degree Show in June, a prize, which also includes an Epson EcoTank desktop inkjet printer. The annual award is part of a long-standing sponsorship Epson has with the University’s Arts, Design and Media department and aims to reward students who are pushing the boundaries of print and using this medium in exciting, creative and innovative ways.
Heather Kendle, market development manager, Epson Europe says: “These awards are a great opportunity for Epson to work with students who we believe will become the creative leaders of tomorrow. We are always keen to understand how the next generation of upcoming artists and creatives are using our print technologies to deliver their creative vision and Priti’s dynamic work is a great example of how outstanding vibrancy and colour continues to be a critical factor in the creative process.”
Miss Patel’s winning printed portfolio was inspired by the bold colours and distinctive tones of Egyptian culture, and supported by a dissertation focused on finding new pigments for sustainable inks.
Says Priti Patel: “Print as a modern medium fascinates me and I was intrigued to see how the latest printing technologies could breathe new life into colours and designs more generally associated with traditional cultures. I think I have achieved this with the prints represented in my portfolio and I’m so pleased and proud to have been awarded this prize in recognition of all the work put into my portfolio.”
A second Epson-sponsored Award and Epson EcoTank printer has also been won by Maisy Postlethwaite – a Level 4 Arts, Design and Media Facility student, who participated in an Epson project undertaken as part of the Level 4 year’s coursework. The Epson project gave students the opportunity to collaborate with some of the company’s finest technical specialists and explore all the possibilities print has to offer. Miss Postlethwaite was given the award in recognition of her overall contribution to the project and her creative approach to print.
