Italy-based Masserdotti Group, a European visual communications specialist, says it has substantially increased its routing capability with the installation of a second Zünd G3 digital cutting system. Fitted with the Zünd automatic router bit changer (ARC), Masserdotti's latest G3 has enabled the company to fulfil its mission to further automate every aspect of production, since its installation in autumn 2017.
Founded 50 years ago in Castel Mella, near Brescia, Masserdotti has established a reputation in visual communication that reaches far beyond the nation's borders. A second-generation business, Masserdotti is led by Alberto Masserdotti and has approximately 40 employees. From its origins in the automotive repair market, the business has continually evolved. As one of the pioneers of digital printing in the 1990s, the company expanded its operations into the digital signage market in 2011 and now has an impressive 10,000m2 production facility equipped with the very latest manufacturing technologies - including its original Zünd G3 cutter for digital finishing which is now in operation for three shifts per day.
In the autumn of 2017, Masserdotti added another Zünd G3 to its portfolio and at the same time also invested in a 3.6 kW RM-L Router Module. This addition brought with it a significant expansion in performance and flexibility for applications involving tough materials such as acrylics and wood.
Alberto Masserdotti explains: "Whenever we are about to make an investment, we want to make sure the production equipment we are considering easily integrates in our existing workflow and helps increase our quality levels. Zünd's digital cutting systems pass these tests with flying colours."
Designed for maximum automation, the G3 is ideal for boosting production in a busy print room, whether it's to clear bottlenecks caused by faster printing technology or to free up users' time to prepare more jobs. All Zünd digital cutting tables have a modular construction to allow users to choose the exact configuration to meet their initial needs, and to change elements at a later date as those requirements change. Modules can all be fitted, removed or upgraded at any time, further future-proofing the systems' robust build.
Zünd's ARC system comes with a configurable magazine holding up to 8 router bits. During processing, the ARC automatically selects the correct bit for the material and task at hand, reducing set-up times and significantly enhancing productivity. The ARC is ideal for efficiently routing, polishing, and engraving applications involving aluminium, wood, plastics, or composites.
The Zünd investment has also delivered additional benefits. Masserdotti concludes: "We are continually expanding our material palette. Zünd cutters allow us to use one machine for processing anything from polyester fabrics to PVC and all manner of rigid materials."
